Christmas with the Beach Boys

How awesome is that album cover? Imagine finding this in vinyl?!

We are currently obsessed with this 'Christmas from the Beach Boys' album (only £4 from the Amazon MP3 store!) There are some surprisingly beautiful barber shop melodies on there, as well as the more poppy uplifting stuff they're more well known for.

As much as I like the 'Magic FM' Christmas classics, they become irritating when every radio station and shop plays them incessantly, so I love finding slightly lesser known Christmas music. As well as our recent Beach Boys find, our Christmas music loves are the Sufjan Stevens Christmas Album (beautiful chilled music, everything you'd expect from Sufjan), A Charlie Brown Christmas (melodic, jazzy, cool) and Vintage Christmas Tree (hits from the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's). All come highly recommended.

Found any new Christmas music this year? What are your all time favourites? Do share below!

  1. I really enjoy the Motown Christmas album - I gave it to my mum a few years ago, and it keeps me in good spirits when I'm cooking Christmas lunch for twelve people. Aimee Mann's "One More Drifter in the Snow" album is great, and I keep meaning to listen to "A Very She and Him Christmas", because I imagine that has a similar vibe. Thanks for the Beach Boys recommendation :)

  2. Totally agree about the Beach Boys. I like 'Christmas Harmonies' because it has Melekalikimaka on it...

Discovered Sufjan Stevens' album last year, such a find.

Do you know Phil Wickham? His Chrismas record is really beautiful.

Also, Jewel's 'Joy' from a few years back really shows off her voice

  3. We love the Sufjan album, Irish husband is very fond of 'the Bells of Dublin' from the chieftans to add a little diddle-de-dee happiness to the season and we also adore 'Christmas with Nat & Dean' for 50's heaven & schmaltz! Happy seasonal listening x

  6. Hey Han! I am loving the Beach Boys; I discovered their festive talents a few years ago via Spotify-incredible vocals!

My favourite find this year has got to be She and Him; a wonderful duo featuring the amazingly talented Zooey Deschanel. Their rendition of the Beach Boys' Little Saint Nick is a real treat!

Love this pictures in this post

  7. Thanks so much for introducing me to this - love the Beach Boys but didn't know they'd done a Christmas album - love 'man with all the toys'!

James Brown Funky Christmas is brilliant - as well as funked up well-known Christmas songs, there's songs like 'Santa Claus goes straight to the Ghetto'. It's brilliant!

  8. Oooh love love the Sufjan collections, the Slow Club one from last year, the Belle & Sebastian Christmas Peel Session (although I think it might be a bottleg) but the winner has to be the Low christmas album. It was just like Christmas....

  9. I love this post. We had the Beach Boys Christmas Album when I was little, I must find the record exchange here to see if they can find me one.

I have a generic Christmas music CD set - jazz, classical, family, traditional - which I listen to a lot, and also there are bazillions of youtube/spotify versions of Springsteen doing various Christmas songs - we have at least one each day!

  10. Usually I'm all about Phil Spector's Christmas album, but I decided to put a proper playlist together on Spotify and ended up with over two hours' of stuff...naturally I won't list them all here, but I simply must mention 'A Christmas duel' by Cyndi Lauper and The Hives - I wish they'd done a whole album!
