Leaf love

I am still revelling in all things Autumn. Still eating pumpkin at least once a day, still collecting pretty leaves and seeds each time I go outside, still taking photo's of the golden morning light on my phone for no particular reason.  The last of the leaves on the huge tree at the end of the garden twinkle and twist in the breeze hypnotically. When it gets dark at 5pm (5pm!) I draw the curtains smugly and hunker down, candles lit, with one of my current obsessions (the new Feist album, Game of Thrones, Frozen Planet or Downton Abbey...) I know that by January its likely that I wont be so chipper about these dark drizzly days, but right now, I'm loving them, with all their new winter season, pre-Christmas promise.

I made my annual leaf garland to celebrate this 'golden' (/drey, drizzly depending on how you look at it...) season. I love collecting Autumnal bits and pieces to make these each year, and stringing them up around the house. They bring a bit of Autumn loveliness indoors, meaning all the lovliness, and none of the grey or drizzle. Winner.

(If you want to make one too: I just pressed the leaves in a stack of magazines to flatten them for a few days, then threaded them with a needle. Its super easy; I cant wait to do this with my future kidlets.)

Happiest of autumn's to you!

  1. I love the lunchtime afternoon sun too at this time of year. January is so far away, lets not look forward to hating the cold just yet!

  2. I think I will have to go out and pick up some leaves. I live in the countryside, so lots of choice and I get a nice walk. The leaves looks so pretty against the white wall.

  3. I needed a reminder of autumnal beauty on a day like today, where I'm lost in a haze of moving dust and on the verge of madness! I'm thinking, gold, crisp and warmth!

  5. The leaf garland is so pretty. I'm annoyed that I'm in the middle of building work at the moment, it's stopping me enjoying all the treats that autumn brings. x

  10. Sigh.... and again... Sigh... Summer is bolting toward us like a mad horse here in Oz - a few last rainy days (total bliss) and then it's 39 degrees and blow flies.. blah! Ok.. I'm exaggerating just a teeny tad... there is the beach - which I'll be visiting this weekend... phew! Hope your pregnancy is floating along blissfully :-) xx

  11. Ah beautiful. I always feel that things feel so full of promise this side of Christmas too, and really do wallow in the wonderfullness of autumn, crisp sunny days but then not feeling bad about de-camping indoors to nestle down with a book or dvd once the dark draws in.
